Weird Stories for a Weird Saddle Shop
In honor of making it into Weird N.J., we want to hear your weirdest/funniest horse-related stories.
When I was 10 years old, living near Bordentown (thats exit 7!), my friends mother took us both for a horseback riding lesson.
That evening, my legs hurt so so so much, I really could not move them. I was hospitalized for what turned out to be a cold virus - which can often cause leg pains in children - coupled with my having tensed my leg muscles while on the horse.
The weird part... The nurse assigned to me the next morning at (then) Hamilton Hospital was the SAME WOMAN who had given me the lesson, on her day off.
This story took place when I was younger and just learning to canter. I was just getting my horse to take his first few strides, and as I came around the bend, some chickens jumped out of a jump right into our path. Scared my horse so bad that he pretty much leaped across the ring. When we landed, I was hanging off to his right side. Just as I thought to myself, "Phew, that was close," he took one step, causing me to lose just enough balance to land into a bed of these cactus-type plants. What a lame first fall! Damn chickens!

I got a kick out of seeing that when I picked up the magazine. <3
